P0035 - Turbo/Super Charger Bypass Valve Control Circuit High

About Trouble Code P0035

When the boost pressure is too high for the engine to operation and power to be normal trouble code P0035 will surface. Each manufacturer has a slightly different definition of this code depending on their system. In general, there is an issue with the bypass system for the turbo or supercharger. The system is unable to partially or fully relieve pressure, again this depends on the manufacturer’s system design.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0035

A high current condition will result in a loss of power within the engine and the engine’s computer will not be able to control the bypass valve for the turbo or supercharger.

Causes of Trouble Code P0035

If the turbo or supercharger’s bypass valve is stuck shut or malfunctioning it will result in this trouble code. If the sensor input voltage tells the engine’s computer that the boost level is high, and the computer can not rectify the problem it will also cause this code to appear. If the boost is high, it may also indicate that the bypass valve is not sending pressure at correct time to relieve pressure.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0035

Start by verifying the code is valid by clearing it, taking the vehicle for a drive, and watching for the check engine light to come back on. Once the trouble code is verified, do a pressure test on the intake system between the turbo or supercharger and the intake throttle valve. Doing this will show you if the pressure is too high for the specification set by the manufacturer. If it is high, look at the bypass valve to see if it is slightly or completely closed, allowing excessive pressure buildup. This may require replacement. If the pressure if found to be normal you may need to replace the pressure sensor.
