P0032 - Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S) Heater Circuit High Voltage Bank 1 Sensor 1

About Trouble Code P0032

Trouble code P0032 is directly related to the Heated Oxygen Sensor in front of the Catalytic Converter. For the engine to correctly operate, the engine exhaust needs a specific air to fuel ratio. The HO2S tells the engine’s computer the oxygen content of the vehicle’s exhaust so, the computer can adjust the amount of fuel delivered to the engine. When the data collected is incorrect this trouble code will surface.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0032

As with all trouble codes, the check engine light will illuminate. Common drive problems are hesitation upon acceleration, a rough ride, and overall decreased power in the vehicle. If the engine’s computer senses that the O2 sensor’s heater circuit is high, it will enter a failsafe mode until the vehicle is turned off. Depending on the vehicle’s make and model this can cause several errors to occur in the engine’s computer and failsafe mode will continue until the problem is repaired.

Causes of Trouble Code P0032

P0032 is caused when the HO2S for engine bank 1 and sensor 1 are sending incorrect information to the engine’s computer. There can be damages or defects in the Heated Oxygen Sensor or the wiring connecting it to the computer.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0032

You always want to verify the code exists by clearing it, taking the vehicle for a drive, and seeing the check engine light illuminate with the same trouble code. There can be several problems that need to be addressed when fixing this trouble code. You want to make sure to inspect all wiring for condition and proper voltage and ground. Check the resistance within the heater circuit. If it’s over 10A and the circuit is good, you probably have a bad O2 sensor that needs replaced. If no voltage is observed, repair the open or short in the feed circuit, you may need to replace fuses that have been blown from a short. If the feed is correct, check the ground circuit and wiring for resistance, an infinite resistance means you need to repair an open in the circuit.
