About Trouble Code P0030

A specific air to fuel ratio is needed for the engine to operate correctly. The Heated Oxygen Sensors detect the oxygen content within the exhaust. This information is then sent to the engine’s computer, so it can adjust the fuel that is being delivered to the engine. When a problem in the system surfaces, the computer notices incorrect signaling and will trigger trouble code P0030.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0030

The check engine light will illuminate when the computer senses this error. The Heated Oxygen Sensor is heated to quickly offer information to the engine’s computer, this helps decrease emissions during start-up, when the engine is cold. With trouble code P0030, it may take 3-5 minutes of run time before the fuel and oxygen in the exhaust can be read by the sensor. There will be little response and cause the engine computer’s ability to control the fuel mixture to deteriorate until the problem is rectified.

Causes of Trouble Code P0030

Trouble code P0030 is caused because the Heated Oxygen Sensor for engine bank 1 and sensor 1 are not sending the correct signals to the engine’s computer. There may be damaged or corroded wiring to the engine’s computer.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0030

You want to clear the trouble code, take the vehicle for a drive, and verify that code P0030 exists. After a returning code, you want to put the key in the ignition but make sure the engine is off, use a voltmeter to check for 12+ volts in the battery feed to the heater element. If there are no signs of voltage, first determine if you need to replace a blown fuse. If not, you will need to repair the open or short in the 12-volt feed circuit. Finding a correct battery feed will result in the need to remove the ground circuit from the computer’s wiring connect to check resistance on the circuit. You may find infinite resistance in which case you need to repair the open in the circuit. Lastly, if the control circuit is good, there is probably a bad O2 sensor in need of replacement. While it is uncommon that the engine’s computer is the problem, if no other solution presents itself, you may want to look into computer malfunction.
