P0028 - Intake Valve Control Solenoid Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 2)

About Trouble Code P0028

The engine’s computer may determine a lack of engagement from the variable valve lift for the intake valves for bank two, signaling trouble code P0028. The valve is either not responding fast enough or it is not responding at all, showing the computer there is a problem.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0028

The computer will trigger the check engine light when it senses the problem. There will most likely be an overall lack of power. The engine may run roughly or stall when driving and you may notice hesitation upon acceleration.

Causes of Trouble Code P0028

If there is a bad connection to the valve lift solenoid it could be contaminated with oil and short out causing trouble code P0028. Corrosion or damage to wiring and connections between the engine’s computer and the valve lift solenoid can also be the cause. There may also be a short or open circuit in the intake valve lift solenoid for bank two.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0028

Double check the trouble code is legitimate by clearing the code and driving the vehicle to see if P0028 resurfaces. If it does, you will want to test the valve lift solenoid to ensure it is failing and needs replaced. If there is any corrosion or damage to wiring and connections between the engine’s computer and the variable valve intake lift solenoid, they will need replaced. The engine’s computer itself could be the problem if you have not found a solution elsewhere.
