P0025 - Exhaust Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Retarded (Bank 2)

About Trouble Code P0025

The engine’s computer commands the exhaust variable camshaft timing for bank two, when it is more retarded then told, trouble code P0025 emerges. This condition can be seen during advancing or retarding phases of the exhaust camshaft timing.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0025

First notice will probably be the illumination of the check engine light. While starting a hard start may be seen as well as a rough ride while driving. There may be stalling and an overall reduction in power. If given an emissions test, excessive emissions from the tailpipe may be found.

Causes of Trouble Code P0025

There may be oil flow problems between the Variable Camshaft Timing Piston and the phaser. Damage to the camshaft phaser will also cause this error code. Also, if the Variable Camshaft Timing Oil Control Valve is damaged or stuck open you will receive trouble code P0025.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0025

Validate the trouble code by clearing it, driving the vehicle, and confirming trouble code P0025 resurfaces. Check for proper oil viscosity and replace the filter and oil if necessary. Corrosion or damage may have occurred to the wiring or connection to the camshaft oil control valve, if this is observed replace them. If there is damage to the camshaft oil control valve for the bank 2 intake camshaft or to the camshaft phaser they may also need to be replaced.
