P0023 - Exhaust Camshaft Position Actuator Circuit / Open (Bank 2)

About Trouble Code P0023

If there is an open or short circuit in the bank 2 exhaust camshaft oil control Valve, the engine’s computer will give you trouble code P0023. This would occur during one drive cycle.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0023

As soon as the engine’s computer notices this problem it will trigger the check engine light. The driver may report hesitation during acceleration. If there is a short in the Oil Control Valve the engine may have a hard start and it may have decreased fuel economy. There may be stalling or rough running during deceleration.

Causes of Trouble Code P0023

There are only a few things that will cause a trouble code P0023. If the engine’s computer commands the Oil Control Valve to a duty cycle of less than 80% but reads an output of 100% or if it commands opening up to 70% and reads output of less than 3%, then this code is triggered. Also, if the Oil Control Valve or wiring to the bank 2 exhaust camshaft has a short or an open circuit then P0023 will occur.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0023

Start with clearing the code, taking the vehicle for a drive, and validating that trouble code P0023 actually exists. Thoroughly inspect the wiring to the exhaust camshaft oil control valve for bank 2 for signs of damage or corrosion. You may need to replace the camshaft oil control valve for the bank 2 exhaust camshaft. If these are not the solution, you may have a problem with the engine’s computer itself.
