P0014 - Exhaust Camshaft Position Timing - Over-Advanced (Bank 1)

About Trouble Code P0014

The engine’s computer may determine that the bank 1 exhaust camshaft is more advanced than it is being told to be. When this occurs the check engine light will trigger a code P0014. This over-advanced conditioning can be shown during advancing or retarding during the timing of the camshaft.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0014

As with all trouble codes, the check engine light will come one, bringing attention to the problem. If the camshaft is stuck in an over-advanced state, the engine may have a hard start. Rough running may be observed along with stalling during idle and driving times. There could be a reduction in fuel efficiency and the vehicle may fail emissions tests.

Causes of Trouble Code P0014

Clogged passages due to thick oil viscosity may cause the camshaft phasers to be restricted. If the camshaft phaser is stuck in the advanced position it could also cause trouble code P0014. Some other things that may make this occur are incorrect timing in the camshaft or problems in the wiring in the intake timing control valve.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0014

Checking the validity of the code should always be done, clear the code, drive the vehicle, and ensure the code returns. Check the wiring to the camshaft oil control valve in the bank 1 exhaust camshaft. If the wiring is ok, you may need to replace the camshaft oil control valve in the bank 1 exhaust camshaft. Timing chain and camshaft phaser replacement or repair may also be necessary.
