P0004 - Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit High

About Trouble Code P0004

Trouble code P0004 is a generic powertrain code that applies vehicles equipped with OBD-II. It is an uncommon problem mostly seen in common rail diesel engines or gasoline direct injection vehicles. It triggers when the engine’s computer finds a problem in the fuel shut off valve.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0004

Like all trouble codes, you can expect that the check engine light is on. You may find that the engine continues to run after the key has been turned off or stalling while driving. Other things you may find are problems starting the vehicle and an overall lack of power.

Causes of Trouble Code P0004

One of the most common causes of this code is a faulty fuel volume control valve or shutoff valve. Another common cause is a problem in the FVC circuit. You may also have a problem with corrosion in sensor connectors or problems in the engine’s computer.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0004

In all cases of a trouble code, make sure the code is legitimate by clearing the code and taking the vehicle for a drive to see if it resurfaces. After this you will want to visually inspect the circuit for any signs of corrosion or damage. When finding corrosion or damage to wiring or connections, you will want to replace these immediately. If no signs are seen check the fluid shut-off valve and replace if necessary.
