P0002 - Fuel Volume Regulator Control Circuit Range/Performance

About Trouble Code P0002

Trouble code P0002 rarely comes up however, when it does it is because the engine’s computer Is detecting a problem with fuel pressure. The computer regulates the fuel pressure from the fuel pump to the engine and if the pressure is incorrect it will trigger the Check Engine Light.

Symptoms of Trouble Code P0002

Once the check engine light is triggered, and the driver starts paying attention, they may say there is an overall lack in performance in the vehicle. Stalling while driving, black or white exhaust, or bad fuel economy may also be observed.

Causes of Trouble Code P0002

There are several things that could cause this error to occur. In an older vehicle it could be that there is corrosion in the sensor connector. It could be a simple disconnection from the plug to the fuel regulator. Damaged wiring in the sensor to the engine’s computer, a bad fuel pump, or a defective fuel pressure regulator are also situations that could cause this code to occur. Keep in mind it could be something more complicated, such as the engine’s computer itself has some sort of damage.

How to Fix Trouble Code P0002

First, you want to make sure that the code actually exists. Also, look for any other codes that may occur. Clear the codes and take the vehicle for a drive, this will show you what codes are going to come back. Analyze the data from the scan tool and see if trouble code P0002 comes back. If so, you will want to diagnose the problem with an advanced scan tool, a digital voltage meter (attachments may be necessary), and a fuel pressure tester. Here you will want to check the signal from the sensor. If the signals are fine you will need to look at the wiring, fuel system and the computer.
